“We don’t quit” is the motto our Guest Speaker, Ian Jones lives by.
Training for a race is hard enough but add in killer weights and punishing cross-fit routines that is needed for Obstacle Course Races (OCR) and it takes training to another level that many of us just can’t comprehend. With an eye-watering, muscle-screaming training plan, Ian Jones is used to pushing himself to his limits and last year qualififed for and completed the World’s Toughest Mudder in a gruelling 24 hour race in -5 degree temperatures in Atlanta to finish 26th IN THE WORLD!
At the RunFit Expo in May, Ian will once again lead a team of North West Police Officers to take on the Merseyside Police v Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service in the Treadmill Challenge. For the last two years the Fire and Rescue just pipped the Police to the post so the challenge is on this year to run more miles and raise even more money for COPS and The Fire Fighters Charity before taking part in the Rock n Roll Liverpool Marathon on Sunday.
The Police v Fire Service Treadmill Challenge raised £2,000 last year for each service’s charity that helps families of injured Police/Fire Fighters.
Ian took on the Lakeland Trail Ultra 100k in the blazing heat last July to finish in 23 hours followed by the 100k Race to the Stones the following week.
Ian’s training schedule is pretty insane.  He’s often up at 5am in the morning to run 13 miles to work before he completes an insane gym session in the aptly named ‘Evil Lens’s Den’.  He works at ‘being comfortable with being uncomfortable’ and this year Ian has moved his attention to Triathlons and is currently training for the Manchester Marathon in April, followed by the London Marathon 2 weeks later, the Rock n Roll Liverpool Marathon one month after than before he takes on his first Ironman 70.3 in Staffordshire in June!!!
You can find out more about his training plans, his motivation and reasons why he pushing himself so hard at the RunFit Expo.
You can catch him at any of the following presentations by Guest Speakers throughout the weekend:
Friday 24th at 4pm
Saturday 25th at 1.15pm

It’s been an honour to work with Ian over the last 12 months and we can’t wait to have him back on the stage again to fill us in on the next 12 month of crazy stunts!
